Toronto City Hall takes Doug Ford to court over Bill 184

City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam has announced on Twitter that the city has voted to take Doug Ford to court over Bill 184. This bill, now law, will allow for mass evictions, and send many people to the streets.

This comes a day after Parkdale Organize and People’s Defence TO declared war on Mayor John Tory and Toronto Landlords. It appears their battle cries intimidated John Tory and caused him to change his tune.

Tory was under pressure from activists - who have twice been to his condo - to do something about the Bill. I'm not sure that made him more or less likely to support Perks' motion here but worth noting

Councillor Gord Perks initiated this movement by presenting a motion against Bill 184 today. The motion states that Bill 184 is against procedural fairness and natural justice, and is asking for the City Solicitor to seek a stay on the new provisions.
