Michael Theriault found guilty of assault on Dafonte Miller, brother acquitted

June 26, 2020

The verdict for brothers Michael and Christian Theriault accused of assaulting Dafonte Miller came back guilty for Michael Theriault, but his brother Christian was acquitted. Both were acquitted of obstruction of justice.

The verdict was delivered via a web stream available publicly on YouTube. As far as I’ve seen, this is the first time a trial has been conducted like this in Canada.

The brothers, their lawyers, crown prosecutors, and the judge were present for the live streaming trial.

The judge rejected the assertion the brothers meant to arrest the subject. The judge believes the brothers meant to deliver street justice.

However, the judge rejected Dafonte Miller’s testimony, saying he perjured himself on multiple occasions, and “tailored” his evidence, based on what his mother was saying.

“Self defence was razor thin, they were just beating Mr. Miller”, the judge stated, in a moment where the mood of the trial changed.

More details are coming.

How do you feel about the verdict?
