Dashcam footage recently released shows 2 RCMP officers savagely beating Chief Allan Adam, during a routine traffic stop. The chief is seen leaving the truck from the passenger side, where he is grabbed by one officer. The second officer runs up and tackles him to the ground. Both officers proceed to beat him as he lies on the ground, defenseless.
There was dispute over the chief’s version of events, but with the newly released video, it has become clear the officers went above and beyond their call of duty. They applied excessive force, in what can only be described a hateful, racially charged attack.
Twitter is in flames over this recent news.
@FSIN - Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations - is demanding the officers be “charged and thrown in jail”. This is not an uncommon sentiment.
As of this writing, the RCMP has not released a statement in defence of this video. The indigenous community is very upset about this, and this will likely spark more direct action if the RCMP does not press charges against the police officers.
The last 2 weeks, Toronto saw protests due to the Police’s treatment of Regis Paquet, so only time will tell how Toronto will react to this injustice, caught on tape.
